Appeal to the Russian law machinery regarding the events in envronmentalists' camp in Angarsk

On July 21, 2007, antifascist Ilia Borodaenko died tragically during the attack on environmentalists’ camp near Angarsk, Russia. Several camp participants were severally injured. This cruel and unwarranted attack was organized by the group of young people, inhabitants of Angarsk, Irkutsk and Usolye-Sibirskoe who advocate racial and national hatred. It follows from the evidences of victims as well as from the style and methods of attack.

We insist on detailed investigation of the attack and surrounding circumstances. Tacking into consideration a high probability of the organization of extremist association by the assailants, we insist on examination regarding the presence in their actions the corresponding corpus delicti.

It is possible that attack on the environmentalists was not the first crime committed by those people. Admission of ideological motive of their actions is the important step in struggle against neonazism.

We demand:

   1. from the General Office of Public Prosecutor – tacking into account the strong public response and the character of the attack, to take over the close control of the investigation of this case

   2. from the law machinery of Irkutsk region

- to admit the ideological motives of the attack and to take them in consideration during the delegation of this case to the court

- to examine the question of the organization of extremist association by the assailants with the aim to propagate their neonazist views and to organize crimes on the basis of national and racial hatred.
